Chitterne’s Christmas

On the 21st December the Benefice Carol service was held in Chitterne. There was a fantastic turnout with about 80 adults and 12 children. The service officiated by Eleanor assisted by David was a mixture of poems and traditional readings – with all the usual carols. Mulled wine and nibbles provided by the Gooches and Pryors were very much appreciated and rounded off a wonderful start to our Christmas celebrations.

On the 23rd December we had our Crib service. Some of younger children from the village enacted the journey to Bethlehem with visits from angels, shepherds and kings. All the readings were done by our young, and very well they did it too. It was great fun. Many thanks to all who took part.

Our organist for both services was Carol to whom we are extremely grateful.

‘As usual we will be making a collection of gifts to take to the Salisbury Women’s Refuge. If you would like to contribute, please bring your contributions to the service and place them round the font. These should be unwrapped, but with some wrapping paper in the bag, so that the staff in the Refuge will be able to decide who gets what. The Refuge have plenty of toiletries and toys at the moment, but the most popular thing would be small gift vouchers from Smiths, Boots, M&S etc, so the ladies can choose something for themselves.’ Virginia Pryor, Chitterne House
