1915-2015, Remembering

Remembering… John Parker, 100 years

The Rector writes: We will be remembering the sacrifice of John Parker of the ‘King’s Own’ Royal Lancaster Regiment, next Tuesday, 21st July at 11am in Tilshead Church. I am delighted that the school will be joining us on this occasion. We will begin the short act of remembrance in the church on this occasion, as there is a window in his memory up in the sanctuary.

Following the introduction where we hear about John, and have a reading from one of the pupils, we will go to the war memorial for the minute’s silence and the laying of the cross in his memory.

The information I have regarding John Parker so far is as follows: on 21st July 1915, Lieutenant John Parker, an observer attached to 4 Sqn of the Royal Flying Corps died of wounds he had sustained. He is buried in the communal cemetery extension at Achiet-Le-Grand near Arras in the Pas de Calais.
