ERIC HAYDEN REMEMBERED
Following news last weekend that Eric had died, we have this lovely recollection from Ewart Grant:

‘Eric, who was the last Priest of Chitterne , Tilshead and Orcheston  before they were grouped with Shrewton, came to us from a busy Sussex parish  as a first step to retirement; he was part time in title but did not know the meaning of part time. He together with Daphne  his wife ministered to the three Parishes tirelessly. He was often to be seen striding the village street and conversing with those he met. An abiding memory of him was to see him rush out the Church, even in the middle of a sermon, and bring back any parent who had left through a disruptive child;  it was through actions like this that he transformed a group of church goers to a community of faith.

I am sure there would have been a nod and a wink as he passed St Peter going through the Pearly gates.’

Ewart Grant                Churchwarden emeritus.

Shrewton Flower Show 2017

A “Salisbury Plain Benefice / St Mary’s, Shrewton”, stand was set up at the Shrewton Flower Show, to simply meet with people for a chat and to them know about the message, activities and opportunities available to them. Oh, and there was a chance to win “Poppet the bunny” by guessing where he lived – Finland, was the correctly selected location. Congratulations to our winner. We want to thank everyone who took part in the event, either as a visitor, contributor or helper. We hope to see you again soon.

If you have other pictures and/or text that we might post on this website, either from this  event or other recent events then please let me know.
