A LENT COURSE FOR SALISBURY PLAIN BENEFICE As you may have seen in the flyer distributed over Christmas, this year we will be holding our own tailor-made Lent Course in the parish. Sessions will run on a Monday evening and be repeated on a Thursday morning, commencing on 19th February and 22nd February respectively. Topics to be covered include our church services, prayer, the Bible, and music, under the headings ‘Worship’, ‘Pray’, ‘Study’, ‘Reflect’ and challenge. More information can be found on the flyer. If you are interested in further details please contact the church office.

…some pure escapism over the Christmas period. ‘Excellent Women’ and ‘A Glass of Blessings’ (among others) both sum up church life from the perspective of the parishioners during the middle of the last century. Some elements (the jumble sale and the church lads’ group) seem terribly antiquated now, but Barbara Pym draws her characters beautifully, and for that reason there is still much enjoyment to be had from her observations of ordinary lives and our everyday worries and joys.

God’s Belongers: How people engage with God today and how the church can help’ Written by the present Bishop of Manchester, David Walker, this book provides a fascinating insight into how people feel connected to the church, and how in turn, we might need to amend our approach towards our community. How do we connect to visitors, newcomers, people who love our building but never come to a service, people who love committees and those who decidedly don’t; and those who love an ‘event’, but whom we see little during the rest of the year?
