PAST EVENTS IN SHREWTON
Spending time with our children and families
We love spending time in our two church schools, but for a year now that hasn’t been possible. During the summer of 2020, we prepared special films for our Year 6 children, and resources for them to reflect on the journey up to secondary school that they were all about to make. We also worked with our new Reception children and their families so they felt a little more connected to their new school before September came around.
Once the holidays had begun we knew it was time to come up with a great plan to relieve the boredom of a long summer (following a long lockdown Spring). We created a series of activity bags, working with our friends in the Methodist Church in Shrewton. These bags were distributed across the whole parish, so that over the holiday period we distributed 150 bags in all. They were so popular, we’ve continued to make them for every holiday since….and now the adults are asking for one tailored specially to them! The gallery hopefully shows some of the good things we enjoyed making.
Remembering our Loved Ones
One of the hardest things during the first lockdown of 2020 was that so many people were unable to properly say goodbye to friends or other villagers at funerals. We made use of our noticeboard to create a space where people could come to remember and give thanks. With traffic at an all-time low, it was a safe and fitting way to begin to say goodbye. Each person was commemorated by their name and with a specially created flower.
'Click and Collect' Christmas Fair
We really missed the opportunity to meet together during the lead up to Christmas. Usually we’d have a Christmas Tree Festival or coffee morning, with at least one or two raffles thrown in for good measure.
While we couldn’t do much about the social aspect, we were able to hold a very successful Christmas Fair! We worked together with our friends in Tilshead to prepare a large range of items for sale, including cakes, candles, Christmas puddings and tree decorations. We organised everything in a ‘Covid-safe’ manner so that people could collect their goodies, or have them delivered. It was a lovely event, and very well received.
Year 6 Leavers' Day
We love to welcome the children from our church school into their village church on many occasions throughout the year. In July we were delighted to spend time with the oldest children as they reflected on their time together and what the future might hold. After a delicious picnic lunch, we had a treasure hunt and then enjoyed some specially designed ‘reflection spaces’ together.
Christmas in Shrewton
At Christmas some of our congregation took communion for the very first time and we also had a wonderful performance from the Shrewton Silver Band.
