About the Village
Shrewton is the largest of the 4 villages in the Benefice, and its history means that there are actually 3 Anglican churches and churchyards within its boundary! The other two churches, Rollestone, St Andrew and Maddington, St Mary now belong to the Churches Conservation Trust, though we continue to have annual services in each, and we also regularly have burials in their churchyards. You can find out more about the Churches Conservation Trust elsewhere on this site.
We also enjoy spending time with our friends at Shrewton Methodist Church and the Plain Church Community both in supporting the local community and worshiping together.
Shrewton has a small shop and Post Office, a busy garage (with petrol pumps), a doctors’ surgery and a primary school with which we have strong links. There are also many organisations flourishing within the community- the Shrewton Silver Band, the WI, a Horticultural society among others.
Maddington Church Room is the only church hall which we own within the parish, and this is used for various social events as well as being available for private bookings, and hosting the St Mary’s Shrewton Scout Group.
