Tilshead
About the Village
Tilshead has a well-loved church right in the heart of the village, but because it is set back from the High Street it’s often hard to spot to the casual passer by. You’ll see from the images on this site that it’s well worth a visit, especially at Harvest time when the decorations are stunning.
Just behind the church is the village primary school, with which we have very strong links. The village hall once served as accommodation to troops from the Commonwealth during the First World War, and today you will find a rather remarkable memorial to the original ‘Winnie the Pooh’ who was brought from Canada and spent some time on Salisbury Plain before settling at London Zoo.
These days the village provides hospitality in the wonderful pub, newly re-furbished and providing authentic italian food. There is also a camping site and a garage with petrol pumps and a small shop.
Tilshead Church is supported by myriad villagers who clean and tidy and also tend the churchyard. It has a small charity (The Friends of Tilshead Church) to support the work on the fabric of the building.
Every year we enjoy a summer fete and the St Nicholas Fair, which takes place around St Nicholas Day (6th December). Look at our events page to find out more!
